Abracadabra- Ai will do it
The quest for Ai resilient livelihoods
The fear of Ai dominance
This morning, I saw an interesting quote from a fellow IIT Alumni Council member. One of the more active thinkers in the country. And someone who speaks his mind.
Ashish Chauhan is one of the thought leaders who helped conceptualise the Megaspheres – A quantum world which will house the new age. A world which is being created at the intersection of reality (there is none), matter (it is all waves and energy) and science (which is still unable to explain the inconsistency between classical mechanics and quantum mechanics).
It is a world crafted by thought – not constructed with brick and mortar. As the Megaspheres achieve reality and finality – we are heading towards the ultimate dark age. One where a few will control the rest. A few will own it all. The rest will be their slaves. Or at least that is something that one global leader believes in. Most disagree but they don’t seem to matter that much.
We all agonised over this long and hard. Megaspheres 101 says that development is not linear. It is in steps. The steam engine and Industrial Revolution was a step. The smartphone with ubiquitous Internet was another. There was 150 years between the two. The next step is Megaspheres. It is just 15 years after the earlier step. A 10x reduction.
When a step change happens, earlier paradigms collapse. China copied Japan. Europe copied America. America grew out of Europe. Europe grew out of the old world around Damascus. Vietnam, Indonesia, Bangladesh are all trying to become China+1. America is trying to unlearn Samuelson economics and has already forgotten innovation economics (doesn’t matter they got a Nobel)
In these VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex, ambiguous) – where does that leave India. Actually we are in a very good place. We have a perfectly non working legal system. If laws were to be implemented, most judges would be in jail along with most IPS officers and politicians. So there is no legal issue. In a lawless world – India is set to be a thought leader. We have been running this country for 75 years without a working legal system. It is unparalleled anywhere.
Second we have a young workforce unfit to fight and not willing to join the army. They don’t have much of a view on anything. People join whichever course will get them the highest salary. If mankind has to throw 500 million people to fight rogue technologies – where will they come from. No one is producing babies like we are. Ivf and infertility notwithstanding – indian reproduction quantum is unmatchable even by China. America is gravitating to same sex marriages but haven’t legalised cloning for childbirth (though they do it for polo ponies)
Third, whilst ai has a lot of promise, it is yet to deliver on those. It took dot com 20 years to deliver. It may take ai at least ten years.
