Chapter 4D: Writing a constitution is one thing

Partition saga

Chapter 4D: Writing a constitution is one thing. Implementing it is another. As India’s march to freedom entered its final decade – it was clear that the British were agreeable to self rule. What was not clear was when and who would take over.

The Muslim League had moved to Lahore. It was clear that Bombay was not going to be in the Muslim nation. BN wrongly believed that the Congress would ensure an undivided India. What he did not know is that unknown to both – Mohandas Gandhi and Congress President Subhash Chandra Bose – Nehru had cut a deal with Jinnah. Jinnah was a puppet for HH the Aga Khan who was no longer on the scene. You only see the puppet when you visit a puppet show

One of the big mysteries that is only being solved now is who pulled the strings for the other puppets. Proxies in polite language. What for example was the link between Edwina Mountbatten and Aga Khans French wife ?

But let’s go back to the constitution of the congress and its failure. It starts at Tripuri in Madhya Pradesh where a session of the Congress was being held. At the Tripuri Session, Bose was re-elected Congress President, defeating the candidate backed by Mahatma Gandhi. This created an unusual situation: Bose had the mandate, but Gandhi and Nehru had physical control over the activists. After Tripuri, the Congress Working Committee—dominated by Gandhi’s supporters—refused to cooperate with Bose. A resolution was created (but not passed) which effectively forced him to align with Gandhi’s line, leaving him President in name but not in power. The constitution of the Congress was only in name. The people believed what the newspapers said. And the newspapers were controlled by the Bombay businessmen.

In the meantime, BN tried to list his joint stock companies on Bombay Stock Exchange. BR Ambedkar was an Advisor to the stock exchange and a faculty member at Sydenham College. No matter what he did, the broker cartel blocked him and he could not list the joint stock companies that he had funded.

BN decided to create a stock exchange in Karachi which would rival Bombay. And to bring Lahore and Karachi education to “backward” Bombay. He was still in denial of even a remote possibility that India would be divided. This turned out to be his biggest failing. And one that would eventually destroy him. His other big failing was to misinterpret the intent of Jawaharlal Nehru who he wrongly assumed had no reason to support the Muslim League.

Bose figured out that there was something amiss. He couldn’t figure out what. There was a conspiracy brewing. One that even Gandhi did not know. He parted ways with the Congress. BN send him to Japan to collect dues.

The Japanese had no money. They agreed to pay in arms and planes. And so was born an army which now became a threat to all. Not just the British. But also to the Congress.

He had to be eliminated.
