It is so easy to criticize, but real challenge is in finding practical solutions that work. In fact, criticizing has become national pass time. The risk of criticism based manifestos like those of Arvind Kejriwal have not led to good places. The pursuit of election funding schemes, culturally non-diverse teams, randomly collected leadership etc led to the old vehicle ban which denied tens of thousands of senior citizen the practicality of their own car for an emergency, public utilities fleeced the rich to meet unviable promises on freebies and public money was splurged to build a personal media presence and palatial homes. In Punjab the situation is far more serious with drug trafficking at its highest ever, cancer incidence at the highest ever and complete failure of public utilities leading to dirty streets, state sponsored real estate bubbles in every city and a fast exiting leadership cadre.
It is not so much about Arvind Kejriwal who is a smart intelligent thinking individual. He rode brand IIT to an electoral win based on criticism but could not find even one BTech to support him. That was because he refused to institutionalize and migrate to a board run professionally managed format.
The reality is that given the size of our population, these problems are very hard to solve. Some are almost impossible. Others need resources which don’t exist. Many have their roots outside of the country. And the reality is that American army camps surround us on two sides and China and the ocean on the other two sides make defence expensive. People or the agrarian economy are no longer our strength unless we can skill the people for the export in a work from home format which is yet to happen. The govt has almost no role to play in tackling ai or global headwinds or war in Iran or Ukraine. Yet all of these affect us adversely.
In China, only professionally qualified individuals can post on social media. In India, it is expected that criticism be supplemented by suggestions and solutions. In that regard, they become useful. Our government monitors social media very intelligently and agencies like NiA are well trained to spot and eliminate threats.
