Dear Friends,
I am sharing my recent Business India article, “Richer, not Happier: The Hidden Cost of Prosperity Without Goodness.”
The article explores a simple but important question: Why are societies becoming richer, but not necessarily happier? Despite extraordinary prosperity, countries such as Japan, South Korea and Singapore do not rank among the world’s happiest societies, suggesting that economic success alone cannot create lasting well-being.
I also introduce the what I believe is a practical way of understanding respect and its manifestation . Respect is not merely politeness or courtesy – it is reflected in where we allocate our time, attention and emotional energy.
Our true priorities are revealed not by what we say we value but by what we consistently invest ourselves in.
The article argues that sustainable happiness is built on goodness – expressed through trust, integrity, compassion, responsibility and respect – and outlines the need for a Goodness Index to complement existing measures of progress.
I welcome your thoughts and feedback.
regards
Ravi Sharma
