There is an extremely unhealthy practice which has taken on unimaginable proportions. Working government officers taking on supposedly “non profit” honorary roles. Scratch below the surface and it is one of the most dangerous phenomena that is being driven by, funded by and controlled by the deep state.
Here is how the playbook goes. First you have a non profit registered in the U.S. For illustration purposes call it Tyres Foundation or Rubber Foundation or whatever. Some name which means nothing. Now this organisation enters into a relationship with some non profit in India which is defunct or stuck in litigation or basically closed. This is then revived by infusing funds from the U.S. non profit using the fcra registrations of the defunct non profit
Now this non profit appoints some powerful working government officer as its Chairman or President or some such. Even government permission could be taken for this harmless sounding honorary role.
The job targets senior officers in law enforcement in sectors like the enforcement directorate or narcotics control or even the national intelligence authority. Using the newly acquired visiting card of the non profit, the individual starts meeting politicians and local business leaders which are way above his pay cheque.
He can then curry favours with them, seeking more powerful jobs and postings. The non profit funds his travel and media coverage. Politicians and well meaning leaders are influenced through media and social media.
This then makes the bureaucrat even more powerful. And thus even more valuable to the deep state.
This has been going on for decades. But it is a trend now getting traction.
A brief perusal of central government rules pertaining to civil servants such as IAS, IRS and IFS cadres shows clearly that working government servants cannot hold such posts. There is no provision for any approvals. So it is irrelevant whether they have sought or received any approvals.
An ai search will show that there are at least seven senior working civil servants who are in receipt of their largesse. I had posted before the kind of roles they were in pursuit of and were actually being considered for. It got delayed as the retiree’s got an extension. But that doesn’t mean the chapter is closed.
It is important that the government take a firm stand on this and bar any working government servant from taking up such posts – with or without approval.
It can do irreversible damage to the country in general and to the civil servants in particular. 90% of the IAS and IRS are scrupulously honest, really intelligent and exceptionally hard working.
It is the 10% which need to be put on their place. And soon.
