Structured thinking for example is really hard to articulate. What is structured thinking in a world of unstructured data. Another important point is the definition of outcome. Do you measure outcome in the form of salary or judgement, marks or critical thinking ability and essay writing or story telling.

I administer one of the world’s most powerful billionaire lists. I also get to peep into the cash flows of those I have worked for as a professional – both personal and work. And this list includes the who’s who of India and of the global IIT community.

I can tell you what will fail but can’t tell what will succeed. But that itself is a massive increase in probability of success. If I can look at 100 ventures and say with conviction that these 80 won’t work – I can then throw darts blind at the other 20 and hope that I get lucky. I may or may not, but at least 5 out of 20 is better than 5 out of 100. With time I have learnt that it is best to take small bets in all twenty than to choose 5 out of twenty for larger bets. Small stakes in twenty is better than large stakes in five or two.

The other thing i find is that time reveals all. There is never any hurry and FOMO has to be got over. We need to observe more than to participate. Haste almost always makes waste. It took me forty years to figure all this out. But that was because I went to IIT, twiddled my thumb as an accountant and brushed up my maths doing a masters in operation research.

When we try to now relook at education, esp higher education – I try to look at it from a Megaspheres lens. Courses should have a pass or a fail. We should not have marks or grades. Academicians call these audit courses. As an auditor I wonder hips the word audit fits in – but doesn’t matter.

I also often think as to why a scam is doctored but an invention is engineered. It was medicine which was supposed to be a noble profession.. But it is engineering which is becoming nobler by the day whereas medicine is actually losing relevance in an ai age. Take away doctors and hospitals – and sickness may actually decrease. Esp if engineers can do preventive medicine.
