No need to rush — I know exactly how far to go

Current affairs

A political cartoon reportedly circulating in Chinese media says more about global power perception than a hundred diplomatic press conferences.

The Chinese line in the image roughly translates to:

“No need to rush — I know exactly how far to go.”

The symbolism is sharp. Xi Jinping stands calmly holding a pin, while Donald Trump floats above like an oversized balloon — inflated with ego, noise, bluster, and unpredictability.

Whether one agrees with the politics or not is secondary. What matters is perception.

Great powers study psychology as much as policy. And the cartoon reflects something uncomfortable: many around the world no longer see American leadership as disciplined, strategic, or stable. They increasingly see spectacle replacing statecraft. A good joker replacing a bad strategist.

Strength without restraint becomes theatre. Noise without consistency becomes predictability. And excessive self-belief eventually becomes vulnerability.

The real lesson here is larger than one politician. In geopolitics, image matters. Emotional control matters. Strategic patience matters even more.

The leaders who appear calm during chaos often gain more leverage than the leaders creating the chaos.

History repeatedly shows that empires rarely decline because they become weak first.

They decline because they become arrogant, distracted, performative, and convinced their dominance is permanent.

And once the world starts mocking a superpower instead of fearing it, the geopolitical shift is already underway.

Iran is a war that is not going to end. The purpose of war is to now restore peace. But there was peace anyway before the war. Iran has nothing to gain from ending the war. Donald Trump doesn’t either. If the war gets over, he will have a tough time retaining his job. This is going to be another Vietnam for America. Or Afghanistan.

It is good for Pakistan though. They have found relevance again and a new theme to milk USA. You don’t need to own a cow to drink milk. In fact America is their cow. And has been for quite a while.

What this war is going to do is to decimate Israel and end Pakistan.

But nothing is going to happen in a hurry. Nearer home we have a state visitor. Mohan Murti has a good take on this:

Marco Rubio arrives in New Delhi this week bearing the usual Washington gift hamper – strategic smiles, solemn handshakes, vague assurances, and PowerPoint promises about “shared democratic values.”

India should offer tea. With biscuits and Rasmalai.

But here is the more important question – why is Rubio suddenly in Delhi, after Trump’s China pirouette?

Simple.

Because Washington has once again remembered geography.

China is not going away.
Russia is not collapsing.

Europe is distracted, ageing, and economically breathless.

And in the Indo-Pacific chessboard, India is not a decorative bishop.

It is the board.

India must engage America deeply — but emotionally detach completely.Activate to view larger image,
